City and Temples : (H/D) ATVT-S1

Drive through different parts of the city, passing old City walls, gates and city moat, markets,

residential areas, foreign Consulates, Government buildings and Tapae, Chiang Mai’s main street.

Drive up Doi Suthep to visit Wat Phrathad Doi Suthep(A.D.1384) 3500 feet above sea-level,

the most sacred temple in Northern Thailand, containing a holy relic of Lord Buddha,

with a challenging flight of over 300 steps, flanked by enormous mythological Nagas.

A panoramic view of the city can be seen from here at 3,500 feet above sea-level.

Other temples visited on this tour include WAT SUAN DOK,

whose large central stupa contains Buddha relic which supposedly self-multiplied,

and WAT CHEDI LUANG consist of an impressive chedi, originally built in 1411.

It reached a height of over 85 meters before it was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1545.

It now reaches a height of only 60 meters. The temple also contains the city pillar.

Chiang Mai Lifestyle : (H/D) ATVT-S2

Leave hotel to visit a local farmhouse in Mae Rim, the outskirts of Chiang Mai.

Take a leisurely stroll around the grounds. Then start cruising through rural Mae Ping River

by long-tail boat for 30 minutes. Softly moving along the river, you will see wooden houses

and modern residences with colourful scenery and lifestyle of the local people.

Arrive at a boat landing, 10 minutes walk from the landing to Waroros

fresh food Market for a visit, experiencing the Northern Thai way of life.

From the market take a trishaw ride along Tapae Road down through City Walls

and along Rajdamnern Road to Wat Phra Singh (A.D.1345),

housing a very old and sacred Buddha image, Phra Singh, for a visit.

Elephant at Work (Half Day) ATVT-S5

Visit the wooded area north of the City to see Elephants at work

Wiang Kum Kam – The Vanished City (Half Day) ATVT-S6

The recent discovery of the lost city of Wiang Kum Kam -

The Underground Empire, is of great cultural and historical significance. Following a massive flood,

the city of Wiang Kum Kam vanished without a trace.

For over 200 years, Wiang Kum Kam became a lost civilisation buried under layers of earth.

By bicycle (Or by horse-drawn carriage),

we explore the main ancient ruined temples of Wiang Kum Kam:

Wat Chedi Liam, Wat Phraya Meng Rai, Wat Kan Thom, and Koo Paa Dom.

Afterward visit Wat Chiang Mun, the first temple built in Chiang Mai

and contains several very old artifacts.

Continue to the Three Kings Monument, and The Chiang Mai Art and Culture Hall

offers a good collection of chronicle history of Chiang Mai.

Take a fascinating drive along the old road to Lampoon (26 Kms. away)

Tiger Kingdom & Padong Long-Necked Hilltribe (Half Day) ATVT-S9

Enjoy a real hand’s-on experience with the big cats.

Drive approximately 30 minutes from Chiang Mai to the Tiger Kingdom

where you can touch, play, and take photos with the tigers.

Then leave to visit to a nearby Padong Long-necked hilltribe at Baan Thong Luang

where you will see the long-necked hilltribe people in their normal simple life.

The Padong people (also known as the Longneck people) prefer to be called Ka-Yan,

having originated from Myanmar’s northern, highland state of Ka-Ya.

There are now thought to only number about 7,000.

Of these, only about 300 have fled to Thailand and live along the Thai/ Myanmar border.

Leave for Chiang Rai by road (200 Kms. away) across mountains,

valleys and picturesque landscapes. Visit Mae Chan with its Yao and Akha hilltribes.

Contimue on to Mae Sai, the farther-most northern trading border

between Thailand and Burma. Local lunch is provided.

Drive on to the Golden Triangle area, where the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet.

Then visit Chiang Saen (A.D.1260) on the steep banks of Maekhong river, opposite to Laos.

Witness some magnificent, ancient ruins and temples.

Return to Chiang Mai, across the same mountainous route, arriving back at your Hotel at about 7:30 p.m.

Leave for the hilly, wooded area north of the City to visit an orchid Nursery & Butterfly Farm.

At Mae Sa Elephant Camp. watch the elephants taking their morning bath

in the streams before commencing their day’s work: pulling logs, piling up logs, etc.

Then comes the time for elephant riding for about 50 minutes into the woods -

a real adventure and wonderful experience.

Transfer to Mae Sa Valley Resort, where lunch will be served.

After lunch & a short rest, drive to Hmong hilltribe village to see the Hmong in their simple way of life.

On the way back, stop at the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden

An adventure trek through some of north’s picturesque countryside.

Approximately 25 Kms. northwest of Chiang Mai is Mae Sa Elephant Camp

and it is here we head to watch the demonstration of elephants at work,

moving logs and generally showing off their various skills.

After the display, there is an exciting elephant trek through the woods for approximately 1 hour,

over hilly trails, to a Padong Long-necked hilltribe village.

Continue on to a nearby orchid farm where lunch is served.

After lunch there is time to explore the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden

and learn about the tropical plant and flowers. Afterwards, return to your hotel.

Elephant Jungle Trek & Rafting (Full Day) ATVT-S14

An approximately 60 Kms. north of Chiang Mai, situated on the banks of the Ping River,

is Chiang Dao Elephant Camp. In an unspoiled setting, marvel at these colossal beasts

of burden performing amazing feats of strength and skill, at the command of their ‘mahouts’.

Then follows an exhilarating elephant trek through the neighboring jungle,

past bamboo trees and hanging creepers, upwards towards a remote Lisu hilltribe village.

The Lisu hilltribe people originated in Tibet and their villages are usually located in

the mountains around 1000 metres.

Local lunch is provided. Then comes the time for your relaxing bamboo raft trip along the Ping River.

On return to Chiang Mai, the journey continues by road to an Orchid Farm at Mae Sa.

Intanon National Park (Full Day) ATVT-S15

Located south from Chiang Mai is one of the most fertile troves of natural treasure in Chiang Mai,

Doi Intanon National Park. The invigorating mountain air, the fresh, cool climate,

Doi Intanon, 8,514 feet above sea level - the highest peak in Thailand,

is probably the most preserved in Thailand.

It is extremely popular among bird watchers, with more than 383 species have been reported.

Leave for Mae Kampong village, a perfect destination to experience the unspoiled beauty of nature,

through Chiang Mai picturesque countryside, stop will be made at a local market.

You will have a chance to buy ingredients for self-cooked dinner at the village in the afternoon.

You will be welcomed by local villager and can take a glimpse at their unique while taking in beautiful scenery.

The village is 1,300 meters above sea level with an average temperature of 10-18 ºC throughout the year.

Upon arrival you will walk through the community forest, where the villagers grow tea and coffee,

to see how they preserve their forest and how they live in harmony with nature.

It is a good example for our King’s self sufficient economy theory. Picnic lunch will be provided at a waterfall.
